Refugee Resettlement

Keneseth Israel was a proud sponsor of a family relocating from Iraq to the United States. Partnering with Bethany Ministries and several other congregations, a dedicated group of volunteers worked to find housing, clothing and household items for a new family. Rides were provided for medical appointments, enrollment in ESL classes and private tutoring in English were set up and help was provided to find employment and enroll kids in schools.

Two years later, the family is established and thriving – contributing much to the Lehigh Valley and enjoying the benefits of living in a free and open society. The committee feels strongly that they got back much more than they gave.

We do not currently have plans to sponsor another family, although it will certainly be considered in the future. And – so many friendships were formed, there are a number of congregants still involved with “our family,” but now as friends.
